puy-de-dôme, auvergne, france. this photograph started a series of images of small cafés in towns and villages near where i grew up in central france. my yashica mat was brand new then and i loved looking down at the ground glass and see the image backwards. i shot with that camera (mostly) for the next 15 years. if you ask me what central france was like when i was growing up, this particular image sums it up: grande rue is similar to main street, mairie is a one room city hall, and small cafés were everywhere of course.
