a little bit about me
the techniques of the photographic process got my interest when i was 12 or so, and i've been looking for different ways to make images ever since. the chemistry and physics involved with the technology have always fascinated me. then in the late 80's, i moved to new york to study film and photography at the school of visual arts, and shot many assignments for magazines, from fashion to portraits, theatre and the food industry.
later as the owner of lexington labs in new york, i had the chance to work with many artists and photographers, making prints for galleries, museums and publications, also co-founded and published (t)here magazine for 6 years. i then joined griffin editions and concentrated on large scale silver gelatin printing. through all these years i always kept making new images with a number of processes, and still do, like i imagined as a 12 year old. and after living in new york for over 30 years, i moved to los angeles in 2020 in search of new adventures.
there i found a new environment to photograph, and i went back to making platinum prints in association with weldon color lab. 6 years later i decided to start a new project in northern spain, where i still print silver gelatin in the darkroom, as well as give workshops in platinum/palladium printing and other alternative techniques.
i also write a printer's life , a blog about my experiences in the darkroom. and i am the co-founder of ESO.bdr, an art think tank doing research on how conflicts and peace affect the arts, among other things.
un peu à propos de moi
les techniques des procédés photographiques m'ont interessés depuis l'âge de 12 ans, et je cherche de nouvelles façon de faire des images depuis. la chimie et physique associées à la technologie m'ont toujours fascinés. plus tard, à la fin des années 80, je suis allé à new york pour étudier le cinéma et la photographie à la school of visual arts, et j’ai photographié beaucoup de commissions pour magazines, de la mode aux portraits, du théâtre à la gastronomie.
plus tard, en tant que propriétaire de lexington labs à new york, j'ai eu la chance de travailler avec beaucoup d'artistes et photographes, à faire des tirages pour galeries, musées et publications, aussi co-fondé et publié le magazine (t)here pendant 6 ans. puis j'ai rejoint griffin editions pour me concentrer sur les tirages barytés de grande taille. durant toutes ces années j'ai toujours continuer à faire des images avec des procédés différents, et encore aujourd'hui, comme je l'avais imaginé à 12 ans. et après avoir vécu à new york pendant plus de 30 ans, j’ai déménagé à los angeles à la recherche de nouvelles aventures en 2020.
là-bas j’ai trouvé un nouveau milieu à photographier, et je suis retourné aux tirages à la platine/palladium en association avec weldon color lab. 6 ans plus tard j’ai décider de monter un nouveau project dans le nord de l’espagne, où je continue le tirages argentiques en chambre noire, ainsi que conduire des ateliers pour le tirage platine et autres techniques alternatives.
j’écris aussi a printer's life , un blog sur mes expériences en chambre noire. et je suis le co-fondateur de ESO.bdr, un think tank qui fait de la recherche sur les effets des conflits or de la paix sur les arts, parmi d’autres choses.
